Please mark your calendars for the first event in our new LAIC Public initiative, which seeks to put students and faculty from our department into conversation with people from outside of the university in order to address issues of broad public concern.

The first event will be a roundtable on “Islam and the Global City” in the lobby of the Casa Hispánica at 6pm on Wednesday April 8th. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants include: Marta Ferrer, LAIC doctoral student; Eliana Kanefield, LAIC undergraduate student; Zead Ramadan, community activist, businessman, board member of The Council on American Islamic Relations of New York, and board chair of the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Education Center; Jesús Rodríguez-Velasco, LAIC professor and department chair; Sarah Sayeed, director of community partnerships at the Interfaith Center of NY; organized and moderated by Seth Kimmel, LAIC assistant professor.
